- New Zealand resident since 2002, citizen since 2021
- 1984 – 1987 studied Marine Engineering to Chief Engineer level at Polytech Flensburg
- 1991 – 1992 studied Nautical Science to 2nd Mate level at Polytech Hamburg
- worked at sea from 1981 to 2014 and from 2022 to current – see Portfolio Sea for details
- taught from 2014 to 2021 Marine Engineering at IMINZ, the International Maritime Institute of New Zealand, which is part of NMIT, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology – see Portfolio Shore for details
- 1997 – 2000 sailed with my partner from Hamburg to New Zealand and 2010 – 2012 we sailed with our two children from Thailand to Hamburg
